Skype Lessons with David

With some music students living many miles (or even time zones) away from their teachers, Skype lessons are becoming more and more common across the country.  Skype is a free web-based video phone system that allows people to speak in real time through their computer via video camera.
Although it’s not quite the same dynamic as being in the same room with David, students can still receive sufficient instruction.  David is able to e-mail worksheets, tables and charts to the Skype students so that they can have them in place when lessons begin.

To experience Skype lessons with David, you will need the following:
  • Skype program (Download it for free by clicking here)
  • Video camera mounted on your computer
  • Speakers for your computer
  • Microphone (either as part of your computer or part of your video camera)

Based on when the student is available, Whitney Harsh will schedule the student in one of David’s open slots.  David will call the student via Skype at the scheduled time, and will conduct a lesson in a video conference.  After the first lesson, David will e-mail PDF documents and links to the student which he/she can print and have available for subsequent lessons.  This format of teaching allows students who have the equipment to connect long distance with David at no additional charge.  Also, students in time zones to the east can have access to earlier time slots in David’s schedule.
"Since I live an hour and a half away from his studio, I took lessons with David through Skype.  I didn't have to leave my house and it worked great.
The lessons were fun and interesting, and I learned a lot!"
